J S Bass Warehouse

This project involved the hi-tech fit-out of an existing derelict Grade II listed warehouse, to provide contemporary office accommodation and commercial space.

This project was undertaken on a fast-track basis, as completion in 20 weeks was essential to accommodate the fact that many of the offices had already been let on fixed commencement dates.

The works involved the wholesale internal refurbishment and extensive external works to the old Victorian building, in order to offer the expected level of contemporary facilities. The building's unique focal point was achieved by the formation of a fabulously distinctive entrance and reception with a feature atrium, comprising different ceiling heights and levels, employing distinctive tiling and lighting features to create a variety of effects. The staircase design features open treads using reclaimed oak timbers with a galvanised hand rail and balustrade.

Externally, new walls and planters were added to complement the existing building fabric.

The project was awarded Manchester Civic Society Award;
